The Sovereignty of God and the Suffering of Man

Looked into what a lot of people see as a problem for an absolute sovereign God, with respect to the presence of evil and suffering in humans. If God is sovereign how can their be suffering? A better question, if God isn't sovereign how can their be suffering that has a purpose?
